Founded  in 1977, Congregation Sha'ar Zahav was one of the first synagogues in the  world to create an inclusive and welcoming environment bringing together gay,  lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and heterosexual Jews.

The first  synagogue of its kind to create a religious school and to publish its own  prayer book, CSZ is currently home to over 300 member families, with a  thriving religious school - Beit Sefer Phyllis Mintzer - now serving over 100  children and teens.

While  affiliated with the Union of Reform Judaism, the congregation welcomes family  and friends, both Jewish and non-Jewish, from a wide range of religious,  ethnic, class, and cultural backgrounds to worship with egalitarian,  feminist, and gay-positive Jewish liturgy, along, with beautiful music and  unique style.
