The ancient story of the Israelites’ liberation from slavery has been a source of hope and a rallying cry for oppressed and struggling peoples in many parts of the world, at many times in history.  Nowhere is the influence of the Exodus story more profound than in the African-American spiritual.  The black spiritual--created by slaves yearning to be free—is some of the earliest music of Black communities in the U.S., and one of the earliest and most influential forms of American music.  As we prepare for the holiday of Passover, come explore the Passover story as it is told through the Torah and through the eyes and voices of African-American music.
