An Update on In-Person Events and Services

Dear Sha’ar Zahav Community,

We hope that you are healthy and well.

We would like to update you on Sha’ar Zahav’s plans regarding meeting in person at 290 Dolores. Our Reopening Task Force met again on Thursday, February 10 and had a spirited conversation about returning to in person services and events. We are happy to say that starting Friday, February 25, all Friday night and Saturday morning services will be in person and on Zoom (hybrid).

We have been keeping an eye on the data of the Omicron variant and we are seeing that it is easing as predicted. While we understand that there is still risk, we believe that it is safe enough now to return to in-person gatherings for those who feel comfortable to do so.

In order to attend in-person events, the Reopening Task Force is requiring that:

  • Masks must be worn in the building. We strongly recommend a well-fitting N95 or KN95 if at all possible; if not, a well-fitting surgical mask underneath and a cloth mask on top. While we know that most of California is lifting the mask requirement this week, we believe that continuing to mask while we are together is an easy way to care for each other and ourselves.
  • Proof of vaccination, including booster shots. If you have not let the office know of your vaccination status, including booster, please see the instructions below or you can show your proof of vaccination at the door.
  • Registration – please continue to register for all in-person events. You can register here.
  • Worship leaders will test themselves with a rapid COVID test prior to the service if they plan to be unmasked.

We step into this next phase with tenuous hope. We will continue to monitor COVID data to be sure that we are aware of any new variants or surges in cases. We ask that you remain flexible – a skill we have all had a chance to exercise in spades during this time. We are committed to continuing to offer the hybrid option for those who are unable to attend in person. We sincerely want Shabbat Services and other offerings to be inclusive of those who attend in person and those who attend remotely. Please continue to be in conversation with us about how we can better serve those of you who are attending virtually.

We will not be having oneg (post-service snacks) on Friday, February 25 or Saturday, February 26 but will revisit this in early March and hope to get back to gathering with refreshments soon. Administrative and facilities staff will be back in the building.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we all navigate this time. We appreciate you.

With Care,

Susie Idzik, Director of Administration

Rabbi Mychal Copeland

Marc A. Lipschutz, President
